Curated List of Black Dermatologists in Washington, D.C., Maryland & Virginia:
I created this list because less than 2% of dermatologists are Black, which can make finding Black dermatologists—and dermatologists with extensive experience treating skin of color—challenging. The majority of my clientele are people of color, and unfortunately, I’ve seen too many cases where their skin concerns were misdiagnosed, mistreated, or simply not addressed appropriately because of gaps in knowledge and experience with melanated skin. This list isn’t meant to say that Black patients should only see Black dermatologists, or that Black dermatologists only treat Black patients. Anyone can receive exceptional care from these providers. My message has always been: It’s not necessarily about what your provider looks like—it’s about what their patient population looks like and their experience treating skin like yours.Representation matters. Experience matters. And having access to providers who understand the unique ways certain conditions present in skin of color matters.Enjoy, and please let them know I sent you!Dr. Eliot Battle - Washington, D.C. | (202) 410-4331
